Boys' Jean Quilts

They're finally DONE!!! I have been working on these quilts for what seems like years. Okay, not really. But I have been collecting and ripping the jeans into strips for quite a while. I really got down to business right before school ended. My friend Melissa came over 3 different times to help me out. Thanks so much!!!This is the awesome quilt frame that my brother-in-law Dave cut out for me right before we moved here. I finally got to use it! The only problem was that the jean was so heavy and the quilt so large that it was easier to only use it partway.

We ended up throwing one end over our half wall since it was already weighted down by the board. It worked great. This was Melissa's first time tying a quilt...what a trooper.

This is my pregnant belly at 33 weeks.

For the backing I used flat sheets. It was easier and cheaper than buying material. The boys chose two different sheets, but they complimented each other. Zach's has navy, gray, and blue stripes.

Jacob's has red, navy, and blue stripes.

I'm so happy with how they turned out!Jacob said to me "It's not as soft as my old blanket. But I like this one better." I asked him why it was better and he said "Because you made it just for me. I love it!" Totally worth it.

Father's Day

Dallin got to spend Father's Day at home with a sick kid. Jacob had a fever, so he stayed home with him while the rest of us went to church. Connor made this awesome tie in nursery, but will not let Dallin wear it. Dallin is heartbroken I'm sure.I think handmade cards are the best!

Cub Scout Day Camp 2010

Jacob is at Cub Scout Day Camp all this week. It is up in Georgetown, in a beautiful park that is nice and shady. Yesterday I volunteered for the first day. He had tons of fun, aside from the heat. It was definitely HOT, but I just moved my chair from station to station and sat in the shade. Luckily I didn't have to do much more than that.

They started out with kickball, then did an obstacle course. They did a weather station and we had some lunch.
His favorite thing there is definitely the archery. He even asked where he could buy his own bow and arrow to practice.

He was very excited that I took a picture of his "almost bullseye."

This is where the majority of the stations were at San Gabriel Park. There is a river in the background where they even do a fishing station. He did BB Guns and liked that better than he did last year.

Last they did solar cooking, with 3 boys working together to make one. I laughed when I saw his s'more. He melted a pile of chocolate chips and licked it off the tinfoil (he doesn't really like marshmallows or graham crackers).

The theme of the camp this year is Space Odyssey. He was really excited when he saw the shirt because it has a Jedi symbol on the front and a Star Wars type thing on the back. The rest of this week he'll get to do more archery and BB guns, along with some other stations about planets and space. He loves space stuff, so it should be a good week!

Summer Hair

Last week I chopped off my hair. It was just TOO hot (and humid and sticky)! And I knew I wanted it shorter before the baby came anyway. I went to see my friend Tammy at the cosmetology school and she did a great job! Too bad it's been in a ponytail every day since. But I love how fast it goes into a ponytail and no hair is on my neck or down my back. This is a random picture of Connor. I was walking past the playroom and he said "Look Mommy, I made STOP!"

Summer Boredom

My new kitchen chairs came last week, so of course we built a really cool fort.It got bigger and better and more decorated as the afternoon progressed. Sadly it had to be disposed of after many territorial arguments and "Connor the Destructo Boy" got too close. We only ordered 4 chairs (these are the chairs that actually are supposed to go with the table from Sam's Club...and I love them). Then we got a bench at Ikea that will easily seat 3 people. I was so happy with how well the bench matched. We have major issues with Zach at the dinner table not leaning over and spilling. Now that he's on the bench there is nothing for him to lean back on and I LOVE it!

When the kids get bored send them outside and turn on the hose. Simple as that.

Popsicles are nice too.

I wasn't feeling so great today and so the kids were on their own for entertainment most of the day. All of a sudden I heard them all giggling tons and that's usually not a good thing. But this is what I found and I couldn't help laughing myself. These are felt faces that Grandma gave us a while back. They will now be used on more than just the flannelboard.

Zach has been having fun watching his little garden grow, except for the fact that there are usually bugs nearby.

Birthday Bowling

Thanks so much to everyone for all the cards in the mail and birthday well-wishes on Facebook! It was a great birthday for me this year. For my present I got my new kitchen table (still waiting on the chairs...long story). Dallin asked what else I wanted and I told him I wanted to take the whole family out to eat and go bowling. I think he thought I was a little crazy. But it was so much fun for me!

We went on Tuesday, the night before my birthday because they had 0.99 Kids Meals at Fazoli's and that's also when we could do Open Bowling. About 2 minutes after we got to the bowling alley Connor tripped while trying to carry a little bowling ball and smashed his face into it. He cut open the inside of his mouth and got a nice bruise on his cheek. Luckily he's a tough kid and was fine after a few minutes. All the kids had a great time and had fun cheering everyone on. I loved having the ramp to use for Connor & Savannah. They thought pushing the ball down it was so cool.Jacob...watching as he almost got a strike.

Zach really surprised me. He did really well (with the bumper lanes). I think he even beat me!

I LOVE this picture of Savannah and Dallin. Savannah got more into bowling than any of the other kids and loved having Daddy help her. She was so excited. It totally brought back memories of when I would go bowling with my dad for our special "date nights" when I was little.

On my actual birthday the kids and I had some fun. We went to the school to see if the baby birds had hatched and they did!!! They were running all over the football field with the mom & dad bird. We couldn't get close enough to get a picture though. They were fast! Then we went swimming for a couple of hours. I forgot to put sunscreen on myself though, and have a nice burn on my shoulders and back now. Oh well. Dallin brought me flowers when he came home for lunch!

Then after dinner we had my favorite...cheesecake. It was a GREAT day!

Summer Reading

We started the Summer Reading Program at Half Price Books and the kids are SO excited! They've outgrown the library program. The little prizes just aren't worth it to them to keep track of it all. If you have a Half Price Books near you it is the best. Every week that they read 15 minutes for at least 5 days they get a $3 giftcard. As long as they don't go over $3 they don't even have to pay tax. The giftcards can't be combined at all, but there is plenty there that they loved and they are counting the days until we go back next week. I did pay an extra 0.50 for Connor's book because it is brand new and has awesome little windows that slide on every page.

I took this picture because the books they chose are so symbolic of what they're all into right now. Connor's is a book about colors, Jacob's is a Bionicle book that he was missing from his set, Zach got books about birds & sea critters, and Savannah got an animal coloring book & puppy movie. And yes, that was all within their limit of $3 each (except Connor's). Yeah for new books!
