Lucy

We got a dog this weekend! It was very last minute decision. Dallin and I just happened to be looking on the Humane Society website and saw this dog. She was just the size, age and temperament we were looking for. We took all the kids down there and she did great with them. So we brought her home!

This is Lucy. Ironically, the first dog we owned was named Lucy. The kids thought it was really neat that she had the same name as our "dog in heaven." She is a Border Collie mix and 11 months old. She has been great with the kids and is adjusting pretty well I think. She's been barking some at the neighbor dogs, but has never barked or snapped at us or the kids. We're keeping her strictly outside, but I'll probably bring her crate inside some this week since it's supposed to get down to like 16 degrees or something. Connor has been very wary around her, but this afternoon he seemed to be better and played outside for a while near her.

Zach is in HEAVEN! He got dressed and ate breakfast this morning in about 10 minutes so that he could go out with her before school. The only problem was that it was still dark and he didn't like that so much. But luckily he had the whole afternoon.

Science Fair 2010

Jacob was required to do a Science Fair Project this year as part of his grade. They have a choice to enter it though, and he chose to. His project was about meteorites and if the speed of a meteorite affects the size of a crater. He did a great job! It's nice to have one of these done and so now we'll know what to expect in future years.The projects were judged on Saturday and they had them on display today at the school.

Jacob was very excited to get 4th place in his division of Earth & Space. He also received the Creativity Award for his division.Great job Jacob!

Savannah's class did a project as a class and she was very excited about it.

Zach's class also did a project, but he didn't tell me that until after I went to see them.

Savings

Zach has been saving ALL of his money since the new year in order to have the minimum deposit for a savings account. That is one of his goals for the year, and he fulfilled it on Saturday. Way to go Zach!

Bowling Boy

On Friday Connor, Landon and I went on a field trip to the bowling alley with some friends. Connor's favorite game to play on the Wii is bowling, so he was very excited to go and do the "real thing" again. We got a tour of the bowling alley. This is the adult section that is closed off to kids after 8:00pm. But you can request this section during the day for no extra cost! We got to go back behind the lanes and see how the pins are picked up and everything.

It was REALLY loud and most of the kids were not happy about that.

Then we got to bowl!

Connor did the happy dance every time he sent the ball down, whether it hit anything or not.

I decided to add a new list to the sidebar of my blog. Since this is technically my journal I want to remember some of the little things that happen throughout my days with 5 kids. So this is kind of like Facebook posting, but it will be able to become part of my journal too.

Savannah's First Piano Lesson

Savannah has been begging me for the last few months to start playing the piano. She is finally reading well enough that I think she'll be okay with it. And I might as well start her now while she's excited about it. We had her first lesson yesterday and I have to say that it is so refreshing to do a lesson where the child is happy about it!!! Savannah has had the longest fingers ever since she was born, and I've always wondered if that would help her in playing the piano. Now we'll find out!

6 months old

Our sweet Landon is 6 months old today!!! He is celebrating by being really cranky while he gets new teeth. But I can still get some good smiles from him, even when he's grumpy.

Snake Storytime

Yesterday I took Connor to a special story time at the library. They have a pet snake there named "Ms. Rocksssssane." Connor loves to see the snake every time we go. Well this week it's the snake's birthday (14 years old in case you're wondering). Story time was all about snakes. Connor was SO excited.At the end they had all the kids make a line to put on hand sanitizer before touching the snake. You know, so the snake doesn't catch a cold from all the kids germs...I thought that part was funny. Connor was still excited.

Then they actually brought the real snake out and he freaked out. Huge tears welling up in his eyes and the saddest face you've ever seen. So he didn't pet the snake, but still had a fun time. As soon as he left the room he wiped his eyes, smiled, and said "Let's go get some books about anacondas!"

Oh, and Dallin discovered tonight that Landon just cut his first two teeth today!

Fun weekend with family

My brother Steven and his family came for a short visit this weekend. They got here Friday afternoon (just a few hours after my mom left) and went back home this morning. Sarah even came with me to Book Club. It was fun to hang out with them and the kids loved having Max here. Thanks for the visit!

More Wii...

This morning Savannah was sitting on the couch and Max climbed up next to Savannah and held her hand for a while. These two love each other so much. They played together the entire weekend.

The "coolest" kids in town

Last week it was freezing cold...literally. Whenever my mom comes to visit we have extreme weather, either super hot and humid or freezing cold. Dallin made icicles again, but this time they last for 3 days!!! The first day the kids came home from school and were SO excited to see them there. They played with the icicles for almost an hour. A few of the neighbor kids looked on jealously from afar. And many, many cars slowed at the weird phenomenon of only one yard covered with icicles.They made for great sword fights...that only last about 2 seconds until they broke.
