Lauree & Kids

I am hardly ever in pictures because I'm always behind the camera. But while my mom was here she took a few. My kids LOVE to do "Row, row your boat"...and they like to do it at the same time. It makes for lots of fun and I'll be sad when they're too big for it.

I have been tagged

I think this is my first official post on this blog, Lauree usually does a pretty good job of letting everyone know what's going on with our family. But my sister Carrie has "tagged" me, so I guess that means I have to write some stuff about me. Here it goes:

1. I like to tease. This is just a personality trait that I have, I have been this way ever since I can remember (see Carrie's blog). Usually this is just limited to family members, since I know they have to have unconditional love for me :-)

2. I like to have nicknames for my family. Here are the latest for my kids: Jacob: Jake, Jacob cakes Zach: Zackleberry Savannah: Nana, Savannah Banana, Nana bloops. Connor: the Businessman (he frequently has a businesslike demeanor in his sweet little personality)

3. I am an ASU fan. When I was a student I liked ASU and all, but never had any ASU gear or anything. Then when we moved to Tucson, I learned that they really hate ASU down there. So I got and ASU t-shirt and hat to wear around sometimes and enjoy the reactions I would get sometimes. I don't think there as any funner place to be an ASU fan than Tucson. I still get some good-natured ribbing here in Texas for not wearing Longhorn stuff (although I do have a UT t-shirt I wear sometimes too)

4. I have taken up running. When I was younger I HATED running. I would always be in the back of the pack in PE and struggle because of my asthma. But now thanks to the new asthma medications available I can breathe freely and usually run 2 miles 3-4 times a week

5. I never earned my Eagle Scout award like a good Mormon boy should. I got about 1 or 2 merit badges away, but then lost interest as the teenage years kicked in. Do I regret it now that I am older and wiser? Not really.

No more naps

Now that Savannah is completely potty-trained she thinks..."I the biggest girl now Mommy and I don't need naps anymore!" For the last few months she does play in her bed for an hour or so until falling asleep. So I gave in...for the last week or so she has only had a couple of naps. Most days it's okay. Last night she put herself to bed at 7:00pm (and slept soundly until 7:15...which is actually sleeping in for her). Well today we had a hard day of transitioning to no naps...and this is what we had off and on all afternoon. She was exhausted by bedtime. I put her to bed about 7:30pm. Dallin went to check on her about 3 or 4 minutes later and she was totally asleep.UPDATE: This morning (Monday) Savannah was already whiny by about 10:00am. So I decided that if she's whiny in the morning then she'll have a nap (or a "rest" as I told her). If she can make it to 12:30 being happy then she can stay up. Hopefully that will keep everyone happy.

A Connor first...

I was feeling guilty yesterday because Connor hadn't been outside at all. We have steps on our porch so I have to be out there with him and it was just too humid. So before his bath I asked Dallin to take him out for a few minutes. He let him play in the sprinklers and Connor had a blast. He loved walking right through the middle of it... Our cute little man
After his bath he went right back to the window and watched the sprinkler longingly...

"I hate salad" pics...

Our kids are pretty good eaters. They like vegetables as long as they're steamed or cooked. They're usually good about eating whatever we're having for dinner with little complaint...except salad. I only make them eat it like once every couple of months and this is the result...

Canning at home

Yesterday I did my own canning right at home. I had some bulk stuff bought a while back that I couldn't take back to the cannery to do. So I borrowed the stake's canner (the big contraption hooked to my counter) and finally finished up. Savannah thought it was so fun helping me scoop stuff to put in the cans, put the lids on, etc.She loved loading the boxes up...at least those that were light enough for her to lift.
A great team!

Enjoy it while you can...

I love it that my kids like to dress up. How fun is it to be reading a book on the couch and have Superman (Zach) come and cuddle up next to you? I came home from a birthday party with Savannah on Saturday to have Superman and a Clone Trooper greet me at the door. Superman taking a break on Daddy...

That evening Savannah came and found me...she was dressed in bright pink princess shoes, a Spiderman cape, a Batman belt, a Power Rangers mask, and holding a Star Wars lightsaber. But she took half of it off before I could run and get the camera. I need to find some girly dress-up clothes on the after-Halloween sales I think.
